Read this excerpt from a blog.Community members, friends, and neighbors, please mark your calendars. This Saturday at 8:00 p.m., city council members are holding an open meeting in the high school auditorium to discuss plans for a new sports park. The park will be built on the west side of town, facing Bass Lake. This area is a popular nesting ground for the Lucy’s warbler, a threatened bird species. Removing trees and changing the landscape of this area will destroy the warblers’ habitat. We must make our voices heard and do what we can to protect these lovely, rare birds.
Answer
A
to inform people about the new sports park
B
to entertain people with details about the warbler
C
to persuade people to protect the warbler
D
to convince people to support the city council
Explanation
The writer warns that building the sports park could destroy the Lucy’s warbler’s habitat and urges readers to “make our voices heard” to protect the birds. Those persuasive words show the main purpose is to encourage people to protect the warbler, not simply to inform them about the park or support the council.
