Question 7 • Grade 8 World Cultures and Geography A
Imagine that you work for the Loving Tree Paper Company, which uses local timber to make paper notebooks. You are responsible for the reforestation of the company’s forest. Which of the following statements best explains why your job is important?
Answer
A
Reforestation makes the forest renewable, so the company has a stable supply of timber.
B
Reforestation clears land for new housing and farmland, making the land worth more money.
C
Reforestation makes forests a nonrenewable resource.
D
Reforestation is required by law for paper companies.
Explanation
Reforestation means planting trees to replace those harvested. This helps the forest grow back and keeps timber available for the company to make notebooks, so it supports a stable, renewable supply of timber. The choice about clearing land for housing and farmland does not describe reforestation’s purpose here.
