Question 20 • IC-MO Healthy Living A

Compare and contrast the three different classifications of burns.

Answer

Answer:

First-degree burns affect only the outer layer of skin and usually cause redness and pain. Second-degree burns reach deeper layers and often cause blisters, swelling, and more severe pain. Third-degree burns damage the full thickness of the skin and may extend into deeper tissues; the area can look white, charred, or leathery and may have reduced sensation because of nerve damage. All are burns, but they differ in depth and severity, with third-degree burns being the most serious.
