Charles Darwin’s study of the Galapagos finches led to an understanding of evolution. How is evolution studied? Check all of the boxes that apply.
Biogeographic isolation separates of a species through geographical and biological forces.
The process begins with a founding population.
In order for speciation to occur, organisms can no longer interbreed. This is known as .
The founding population becomes biogeographically isolated from the rest of its species.
Identify the isolation mechanisms described using the drop-down menus. Differences in courtship or other behaviors prevent mating. Species can no longer interact because they are separated by physical boundaries. Species do not interbreed because they breed at different times. Species cannot physically mate due to genitalia or gametes being incompatible.
Over time, the population becomes reproductively isolated from the original population.
The isolated population undergoes genetic change through random mutations.
