How did changing from a light drizzle to a downpour affect the river and the sediment in it? Check all that apply. The river increased its slope. The volume of the river decreased. The velocity of the river increased. There was more erosion in the stream. The type of sediment that moved changed.

Suppose a block of wood is placed under the left edge of the table. How would the new slope affect the rate of erosion? Where would most of the sand be deposited?

Which conditions resulted in the erosion of larger rocks, like the one circled in the image? Check all that apply.
In which Colorado Rockies scenario was there more erosion? Why was there more erosion in the scenario?
There was more erosion in the scenario with bare soil (the scenario without vegetation). This happened because there were no plant roots to anchor the soil in place and no foliage to absorb the impact of the raindrops, allowing the water to flow more quickly and wash away a greater amount of sediment.
A stream table is a tool used to show how water causes erosion. Water from the left side of the table is added to model a stream.Suppose a block of wood is placed under the left edge of the table.Which characteristic of the stream is changed?
How did the lab activities help you answer the lesson question: What factors affect the power of a river to cause erosion? What conclusions can you make from your observations?
The lab activities allowed me to see how different variables change the rate of erosion. By increasing the slope of the model river, I observed that the water velocity increased, which led to more sediment being moved and deeper channels being formed. Similarly, increasing the water volume increased the river's energy and its ability to transport larger materials. From these observations, I can conclude that factors such as the gradient (slope) of the land, the volume of water, and the velocity of the flow directly affect a river's power to cause erosion.
