Question 12 • FL-2000310-Biology 1 Sem 2
Answer:
A leaf is broad and flat, which gives it a large surface area to absorb sunlight for photosynthesis. Its thin shape allows light and carbon dioxide to reach its cells easily. Many leaf cells contain chloroplasts with chlorophyll, which captures light energy to make sugars. Tiny openings called stomata let carbon dioxide enter and oxygen and water vapor leave; guard cells open and close the stomata to help regulate gas exchange and water loss. Veins contain xylem, which carries water to the leaf, and phloem, which transports sugars from the leaf to the rest of the plant.
