Answer
A
The fossil record shows only current species.
B
The fossil record shows which organisms have a common ancestor.
C
The fossil record documents changes in organisms over time.
D
The fossil record gives evidence of extinct species.
E
The fossil record shows that organisms always remain the same.
Explanation
The fossil record includes remains and traces of organisms from different time periods. Comparing fossils shows how organisms changed over time and provides evidence of species that are now extinct. Similarities among fossils can also help show which organisms share a common ancestor. It does not show only current species, or that organisms always remain the same.
