Lab: Mouse Genetics (One Trait) Answers

The color of the fur is the .

The genetic combination of alleles that determine the fur color is called the .

Suppose that a mouse with black fur has both an allele for black fur and an allele for white fur (Bb). Based on this information, you can conclude that the dominant allele must be for fur and

the recessive allele must be for fur.

For this lab, assume that the allele for black fur is dominant. This allele’s symbol is .

The allele for white fur is recessive. This allele’s symbol is .

A mouse has alleles for both black fur and white fur The mouse has because the dominant allele, B, is always expressed.

Generalize: If either allele is the

allele for a trait, the organism will exhibit that trait. An organism will express the recessive trait only when recessive
