Stages of Relationship Development

Question 8 • SOAR Communications

Explain the 6 stages of a relationship. Which stage do you think is the most difficult? Why?

Answer

Answer:

The six stages of a relationship are contact, involvement, intimacy, deterioration, repair, and dissolution. Contact is when people first meet and form initial impressions. Involvement develops as they spend more time together and begin sharing information about themselves. Intimacy is a closer connection built on trust and deeper self-disclosure. Deterioration occurs when conflict or distance weakens the relationship. Repair involves reflecting, communicating, and trying to address the problems. Dissolution is when the relationship comes to an end. I think repair is the most difficult stage because both people have to be willing to discuss what went wrong, take responsibility, and make a continuing effort to rebuild trust.
