Read the scenario. The basketball team is preparing for a big game as the new team captain, Leon, gathers his teammates for a pre-game talk. His coach has encouraged him to use his unique perspective to lead, and today, Leon feels ready. What is one thing Leon should include in his pre-game speech to demonstrate effective leadership?
Answer
A
an emphasis on winning as the only goal that matters in the game
B
a strategic breakdown of the game plan in clear steps for everyone to understand
C
a personal story that highlights his own success over his teammates’ contributions
D
a recount of the previous losses to motivate the team through negative reinforcement
Explanation
An effective leader helps the team understand what to do and how to work together. Leon should clearly explain the game plan in steps so every teammate knows their role. Focusing only on winning or using negative reinforcement can hurt morale, while a story that claims his success matters more than his teammates’ contributions undermines teamwork.
