Explain where Buddhism originated and how it spread.

Answer:

Buddhism originated in ancient India, in the region where Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, lived and taught. It spread through the work of missionaries and Buddhist rulers such as Ashoka, and along trade routes including the Silk Road. Over time it reached Sri Lanka, Central Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia, where it developed into different traditions.
