EdgeX Video Speed: Speed Up EdgeX Videos (2026)
EDGEX AUTOMATION

- Auto Complete Assignments

EdgeX does have a built-in video speed setting, but it's limited. Per Imagine Learning's help center, EdgeEX (the official spelling of EdgeX) offers 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x and 2x playback, the option is off by default, and your teacher has to enable it. Even when it's on, the whole video still has to play, the speed drops back to 1x on every new video, and "Show Me" videos always run at 1x.
So if you can't find a speed button, that's normal: your teacher hasn't turned it on. If you want to go faster than 2x, or you don't want to babysit every video, that's where Revolt's Auto Instructions comes in with 5x, 10x and 20x presets. Below is how both options work and how to use them without making your progress look strange.
How the official EdgeX speed option works
The native control lives in the EdgeX video player. When a teacher enables it, you'll see a speed menu with four choices above normal speed. Here are the rules, based on Imagine's own documentation:
- •Speeds available: 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x and 2x.
- •Off by default. A teacher (or the school's settings) has to switch it on for your course.
- •The full video still plays. Speeding up shortens the wait, but you can't skip ahead to the end.
- •It resets to 1x at the start of each video, so you pick the speed again every time.
- •"Show Me" worked-example videos stay at 1x no matter what.
If you're in a long course with dozens of instruction videos, 2x helps, but the reset alone gets tedious. And if your teacher never enables it, you're stuck at 1x.
Can you ask your teacher to turn it on?
Yes, and it's worth asking. Some teachers leave it off simply because it's the default. A short, polite message works best: explain that you're behind and that you still watch the full video. It's settings-dependent, so the answer varies by school. Some programs keep speed off on purpose, especially in credit recovery.
If your teacher does turn it on, get in the habit of picking 2x as soon as each video starts, since it won't remember your choice. Turning on captions helps at higher speeds too, so you can read along when the narration gets fast. Just remember the Show Me clips will still play at normal speed.
Going faster with Revolt: 5x, 10x and 20x
Auto Instructions is Revolt's feature for instruction activities. On EdgeX it plays the lesson videos at a Video Speed preset you choose and answers the practice questions that show up inside the instruction. You don't have to click through each segment yourself.
| Option | Speeds | Needs teacher? | Resets each video? |
|---|---|---|---|
| EdgeX built-in | 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, 2x | Yes, off by default | Yes, back to 1x |
| Revolt Auto Instructions | 5x (default), 10x, 20x | No | No, preset stays set |
5x is the default because it's the sensible middle ground. 10x and 20x are there when you're clearing a backlog, but read the pacing section below before you leave them on all day.
Auto Instructions plays EdgeX videos at 5x, 10x or 20x and answers the practice questions inside them.
See Revolt for EdgeXSettings that pair well with fast videos
Speed is one part of it. These Revolt settings make video-heavy EdgeX courses a lot less painful:
- •Allow Tab Out: videos keep playing when you switch to another tab, with picture-in-picture so you can still glance at them.
- •Mute Audio: silences lesson audio so a 10x video isn't blasting chipmunk narration.
- •Video Dimmer: darkens the video area if you'd rather not have it flashing on screen.
- •Auto Advance: moves you to the next activity when one finishes, so the course keeps going without you clicking Next.
Put together, you can open your EdgeX course, start the first instruction and let Revolt handle the videos, the practice questions and the move to the next activity.
Pacing: why faster isn't always better
Teachers can see when you worked and how long things took. Finishing a semester's worth of instruction in one evening stands out, whatever tool you used. A few habits keep things looking normal:
- •Stick with 5x unless you're catching up on a real backlog.
- •Use the Work Hours Scheduler so automation only runs during the days and hours you'd normally work, with breaks.
- •Spread a unit over several sessions instead of one marathon.
- •Keep quiz scores realistic. Perfect scores right after a 20x video binge invite questions.
On classic Edgenuity, video speed works differently. If you also have classic courses, the classic Edgenuity video speed guide covers that player.
Frequently asked questions
Can you speed up videos on EdgeX?+
Yes, if your teacher enables it. EdgeX's built-in option goes up to 2x, is off by default and resets to 1x on each video. Revolt's Auto Instructions adds 5x, 10x and 20x presets.
Why don't I see a speed option in EdgeX?+
The native speed setting is off by default, so your teacher or school hasn't turned it on for your course. You can ask them to enable it.
Can you skip videos in EdgeX?+
Not with the built-in controls. Per Imagine's help center, the full video still has to play even at a faster speed.
Why are Show Me videos stuck at 1x?+
That's by design. EdgeX keeps "Show Me" worked-example videos at normal speed even when the speed option is enabled.
What speed should I use with Revolt?+
5x, the default, is a good balance. Save 10x and 20x for catching up, and pair any speed with Work Hours so your activity times look normal.
